Land acquisition bill: Trinamool, Cong caught in fresh spat
Earlier Trinamool chief and the first woman chief minister of West Bengal expressed her consent over the bill. However, within few days the party raised objection to the passed bill.
After rural and development minister Jairam Ramesh reached Kolkata, Mamata claimed that the land should only be acquired for stated public purpose like building roads, airports, ports etc. The West Bengal chief minister also asserted that the government cannot acquire land for private companies.
Stating his opinion, Ramesh said, "The most important issue is the acquisition by the government for the private companies for private purposes. So we need bring some clarity on that. Mamata Banerjee has also expressed her views."
The present bill mentions 80 percent consent of the land owners but Mamata Banerjee voiced for 100 percent consent from the owners to accomplish the "Public purpose" completely.
