Bollywood film producer arrested by Mumbai police

Mumbai, Jul 28: A film and TV serial producer has been arrested by the Oshiwara police in the case of conning several Bollywood personalities of their money.

Varinder Kumar was arrested from Andheri(West) by the police on Jul 27.

"He told me that his company was allotted seven Mhada flats under the chief minister's quota and offered one to me. I paid the money at his residence after signing the agreement. But he didn't give me the agreement copy. When ever I inquired him about the flat he would ask me to wait citing different reasons," said lyricist Sameer Pandey.

Among those cheated by the accused include Abas Mastan, Chitresh Shrivastva, Ashok Gaikwad and Hitesh Bhatt. He also duped Murarilal Modi, a builder after he promised to introduce his son into the film industry as a lead actor.

"Kumar's website showed a list of approved TV serials he was producing for different channels but when contacted the concerned channels they said they do not know about any such production agreements," said Ashok Pandit after he approached a police officer.

Denying the allegations, Kumar said that he had taken money from people to produce movies and also returned them the money.
