When the BJP raked up the issue after the PM and Chidambaram was named, he reacted saying that the BJP is targeting him for exposing right wing terror links. With this comment, the 2G spectrum scam has not taken a nasty political turn.
The BJP in its press conference on Monday, had upped the ante against the scam-tainted UPA government with the BJP President saying, "Finance minister is directly responsible and he must resign."
Chidambaram has however claimed that the BJP is targeting him since he initiated a probe by the NIA into Hindu terror, suggesting Swami Aseemanand's role in the Samjhauta blasts. BJP had earlier demanded an inquiry into Chidambaram's role in the 2G scam when BJP MP Prakash Jhavdekar met with the CBI director in Delhi.
Another senior BJP leader Murli Manohar Joshi, who heads the PAC probing the telecom scam also sought answers on the role of the Home Minister in the revenue formula adopted by the telecom ministry in allotting the spectrum.
With the latest case of both PM Manmohan Singh and P Chidambaram being named by A Raja, the Opposition seem to have acquired new ammunition to fire at the already stricken UPA government. But what remains to be seen is how the government will wriggle out of the colossal mess it has now found itself embroiled in.
