DMK stranded, Karuna ready to quit amid Alagiri-Stalin fight
Karunanidhi said that he can step down the post if "for the sake of the party's future." Such shocking statement popped up when his two sons - MK Stalin and MK Alagiri continued with their fight about the hierarchy in the general council meeting in Coimbatore on Saturday, Jul 23.
Without hiding his embarrassment over the battle between his two sons, Karunanidhi claimed, "You are trying to create a rift between Stalin and me. If need be, I am ready to quit."
Before staging a walk-out from the meeting, the DMK chief said, "If anyone here feels that I should quit, then I will do so for the sake of the party."
While supporters of Stalin demanded his (Stalin's) upliftment as the party supremo, Alagiri and his supporters want Karunanidhi to continue with his position in DMK.
However, the party leaders again will meet on Sunday after the high drama in the Saturday meeting. The leaders are expected to discuss the reasons of the poll debacle and the replacements for A Raja and Dayanidhi Maran - the two accused in the 2G spectrum scam.
