Woman hostage rescued, 3 militants killed: J&K Army

Srinagar, Jul 15: On Friday, Jul 15 three of the six militants (supposedly from Lashkar e Taiba) have been shot dead by the army forces. These terrorists hiding inside a house in Lolab area in Kupwara district in Jammu and Kashmir captured a local woman as hostage.

The incident happened in Maidanpora village, 87 km from Srinagar, in Kupwara district of North Kashmir, a police officer said.

Following an information regarding the presence of few militants in the area, the security forces launched a search-cum-cordon operation in Maidanpora village in Lolab. There was no exchange of firing between the two sides as security forces wanted to ensure that all civilians are out of the building before start of an offensive.

Army officials confirmed that the woman is safe and has not suffered from any major injuries. Other members of the woman's family had come out earlier. The encounter is on, they said.
