JK to video-graph driving tests

Srinagar, Jun 28: Drivers in Jammu and Kashmir intending to obtain a licence will soon have to undergo driving tests under the watchful eyes of video-cameras.

The state government has made videography of driving tests conducted by the ARTOs mandatory before granting of licences.

The step has been taken to bring accountability in the process of obtaining driving licences and ensure that only those drivers get licences who have actually qualified the test.

"No licence should be issued without a standard driving test that too after videography," state Transport Minister Qamar Ali Akhoon said at a meeting of Assistant Regional Transport Officers (ARTOs) here yesterday.

He said the videographing will facilitate issuance of licences to only trained drivers besides putting a tab on irregularities in the licence issuing process.
