Will Mother Kanimozhi get bail on 3rd bid?SC to decide today

New Delhi, Jun 20: The Supreme Court on Monday, Jun 20 will announce its decision on the bail plea of the former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Karunanidhi's daughter Kanimozhi and the MD of Kalaignar TV, Sharad Kumar.

Sources said that the DMK MP, Kanimozhi will reiterate her argument of "being a mother" to seek special "sympathy" for herself in the court. Earlier Kanimozhi's lawyer Ram Jethmalani had made the same argument, though failed to gain any sympathy from the trial court and Delhi High Court.

On Monday, Kanimozhi will move the court for the third time hoping bail as she has been lodged in Tihar jail for a month. Kanimozhi, along with Sharad Kumar was arrested on May 20 as two of the main accused in 2G spectrum scam.

Kanimozhi and Sharad Kumar allegedly received a bribe of Rs 200 crore from Cineyug Film through Shahid Balwa's DB Realty. However, Kanimozhi still stands by her argument that the alleged Rs 200 crore bribe was in actuality a loan from Cineyug and was availed at market rate for the channel's operations.

The detained DMK MP also added that she had repaid the loan amount along with interest abiding all statutory laws on business transaction. Kanimozhi also commenced that the Delhi High Court had made a mistake rejecting her bail plea and put forth her stand saying, she was only charged with conspiracy while not connived to illegal distribution of spectrum licenses or had abused her power of authority.

The CBI has so far claimed that both Kanimozhi and Sharad Kumar can hamper with the evidence against them if the duo get bail. Now, it will be interesting to see if Kanimozhi's argument will help her gain Supreme Court's sympathy.
