Three persons detained in MiD Day journos murder let off

Mumbai, Jun 16: After a huge uproar over the Mumbai MiD Day journalist, Jyotirmoy Dey's murder, there were many controversies and conspiracy theories doing the rounds. Facing immense pressure by journalists and the public to nab the killers, the Mumbai police picked up three men apparently from the Chotta Shakeel gang on Wednesday in connection with the murder.

With the public perception that there would be some breakthrough following the detaining of the three persons, reports have emerged on Thursday that they were let off after questioning. The three gang members, Anwar, Mateen Iqbal Hatela and Shaikh were being questioned for their role in Dey's killing.

The trio was picked up near Mumbra by the Powai police and was later handed over to the Crime Branch who is probing the matter. A car was also seized which was believed to be used by the assailants in the shootout on Dey on Jun 11.

With journalist's in Mumbai on a fast demanding a CBI probe into the murder, the investigating officials are also looking into the sandalwood, diesel and oil mafia who could have had a role in the killing of Jyotirmoy Dey.

Meanwhile, Chhota Shakeel in a statement to TOI claimed his non-involvement in the murder pointing he was in no way affected by Dey's articles or reports.

The police stated that the trio were released on the condition that they will be called back for questioning when the need arises.
