Karunanidhi asks Rajnikanth to focus on health

Tamil film industry superstar Rajnikanth
Chennai, Jun 16: A day after superstar Rajnikanth told chief minister Jayalalithaa that Tamil Nadu was "saved" after her party won the recent assembly polls, DMK chief M Karunanidhi today (June 16) spoke to the actor on a customary courtesy call wishing him speedy recovery. Rajnikanth was discharged from the Singapore hospital after being taken ill during the course of the shooting of his ambitious movie project 'Rana'.

Rajnikath also responded aptly to Karuna's well-wishes by saying, "You have faced so many ups and downs in life. It is important that you take care of your health. You should not consider anything (else) big." The former Tamil Nadu CM wished the superstar in a telephonic conversation.

A DMK release here said that the 88 year-old party patriarch expressed happiness at the improvement in Rajnikanth's health, who was discharged from a Singapore hospital yesterday, and hoped for his early return to Chennai.

In his first interaction with Jayalalithaa after he was discharged, the superstar had said that the state had been "saved" following her massive mandate, according to a state government release yesterday.

The DMK suffered a humiliating defeat in the hands of AIADMK-led front in the April 13 assembly polls, that saw the party pushed to a third spot in the state Assembly, even failing to qualify to become Principal Opposition party.

Rajinikanth, who had not been keeping well for sometime, was hospitalised in Chennai twice for different health conditions, including respiratory problems and was later shifted to Singapore for treatment for a reported kidney ailment.
