Punjab Assembly pays tributes to Bhajan Lal

Chandigarh, Jun 13: Punjab Assembly at its special one-day sitting today paid tributes to former Haryana Chief Minister Bhajan Lal, Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal's wife Surinder Kaur and others who passed away recently.

The Chief Minister led the House in paying tributes and the Assembly observed a two-minute silence as a mark of respect to the departed souls.

The others who were remembered by the House were former MP Iqbal Singh Dhillon, former MLA Arjan Singh, freedom fighter Satpal Kakkar and writer Harnam Singh Shan.

Leader of Opposition Rajinder Kaur Bhattal and Leader of BJP legislative group Tikshan Sud joined the Chief Minister in paying tributes.

A special one-day session of the Assembly is being held today to elect the Deputy Speaker of the House.

Never before in the history of the state has a session been convened for a single purpose.

The post had fallen vacant following the induction of Sat Pal Gosain as a Cabinet Minister in the SAD-BJP government recently.
