Congress appeals Modi to 'go slow' on helmet rule

Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi
Vadodara, Jun 13: The city unit of Congress requested Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi to instruct police officials to not "harass" citizens on helmet rules.

"I wanted Modi to instruct the officers concerned to ensure that rigorous enforcement of the helmet rule did not pose any hardship to the public," Suresh Patel, city Congress president told PTI today.

Patel''s plea came after the newly-appointed police commissioner instructed his subordinates of strictly implementing helmet rule for the two-wheeler riders.

On Saturday, police booked 1119 cases for non-compliance and collected a total amount of Rs 1,07,950 from the violators of the rule, a press release by police said.
