Panaji, Jun 7: A strict code for dress has been imposed for visitors, specially foreigners, while one temple has banned the entry of foreigners completely.

According to the temple authorities, skimpily dressed foreigners, many coming in beach wears upset the devotees.

"Entry Restricted for Foreign Tourists," reads a board put up by Mahalasa Narayani Temple, Marodol 20km from Panaji. While Ramnathi temple at Ponda and Mangueshi temple, Mangueshi village have imposed a dress code for foreigners.

"We are not against the foreigners, but their dresses and conduct in the temple is highly objectionable, so the management has decided to ban them," said Vinod Kamat, President of Mahalasa Narayani Temple.

"They would wear garlands themselves, and later dump them before the deity, which was highly objectionable," said Kamat after locals were angered on the ignorant foreigners who wore garlands actually supposed to be for the deity.

"There has to be some discipline," he said.

At least hundred foreigners visited temples everyday before the ban was imposed.
