CBI to submit report; exclusive court to hear 2G cases

New Delhi, Mar 15: The investigative agency Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is all set to submit its report on the much hyped 2G spectrum scam. Today (Tuesday, Mar 15) CBI will move the Supreme Court with its report. However, an exclusive court will hear the cases of the second generation telecom scam.

Following New Delhi High Court's order, a high-level meeting was held in the past few days, chaired by Chief Justice Dipak Misra, to set up an exclusive court for the 2G cases, sources reported.

Today the court will pronounce its verdict about the cancellations of telecom licences referred to several telecom companies by former telecom minister A Raja.

"If a license is to be cancelled after it is acted upon, only on account of delayed roll out, the investment made in infrastructure etc would be rendered nugatory which may not be in public interest," the telecom department had earlier claimed in its affidavit to the court.

CBI has so far interrogated several people in the spectrum scam. DMK supremo and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi and his wife Dayalu Ammal and daughter Kanimozhi also faced CBI interrogation.

Kanimozhi and Dayalu Ammal together own 80 percent stake in Kalaignar TV which was benefited from DB Realty owned by Shahid Balwa and one of the main accused in the whole spectrum scam.

"It has also come to light that there was a transaction of Rs 214 crore from M/s Cineyug Films private limited to Kalaignar TV in 2009," CBI officials claimed previously.

Former telecoms minister A Raja, his personal secretary RK Chandolia, former telecom secretary Siddharth Behuria and managing director of DB Realty Shahid Balwa have so far been arrested over their alleged involvement in the 2G scam.
