Kanimozhi cornered by CBI on 2G scam in Chennai

Chennai, Mar 11: The DMK has more shame in store for them as the daughter of DMK Chief and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, Kanimozhi is being questioned by the CBI on the 2G spectrum scam at the DMK headquarters in Chennai at the moment.

After the number of arrests and the wide ranging investigation, the investigation officials have come knocking on the DMK doorsteps. Its not just Kanimozhi who is under the scanner, but her step mother Dayalu Ammal who has also arrived for questioning.

The CBI will primarily look into how Kanimozhi acquired a donation to Kalaignar TV of Rs 214 crore from DB Realty through Cineyug TV. Incidentally, Dayalu Ammal holds 60 pecent stake in Kalaignar TV, while Kanimozhi and Sharad Kumar holds 20 percent stake each. The CBI will focus on the grounds by which the DMK-supported television channel got such a huge sum and on what basis.

The CBI had earlier raided the channel's office after reports revealed that A Raja had invested heavily in the channel with kickbacks he received from Swan Telecom. Swan Telecom was unfairly given the licenses during Raja's regime. Shahid Balwa, Swan telecom MD is under arrest and investigations are underway.

Sources within the TV channel had denied all allegations and said that the Rs 214 crore payment was considered an investment and would be repaid. Kanimozhi was earlier quoted as saying, "I haven't got any summons from the CBI. Kalaignar TV has already explained that they have nothing to hide."
