Corporator thrown out for having three children

Court Hammer
Pune, Mar 10: A court disqualified corporator Rashid Khan Shaikh from the membership of Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) for flouting the two-child norm for elected representatives.

Sayyed Salauddin had filed a petition arguing that Shaikh, a corporator from Harkanagar area in Bhawani Peth, had three children and hence violated the norm.

Following this, Judge Uttam Talegaonkar ruled that candidate Razzak Khan, who secured the second-highest number of votes in the election, would replace Shaikh as corporator, Manjusha Idhate, Senior Legal Advisor of Pune Municipal Corporation, said.

Razzak will enjoy a term of barely 11 months in office as the PMC elections have been scheduled for Feb 2012.
