Three persons arrested in connection with procurement of steel

Itanagar, Feb 26 (PTI) Three persons, including twoofficials, were arrested in connection with allegedmismanagement in procurement of steel meant for constructionof three hydel projects in remote Kurung Kumey district.

Following a written complaint by a youth body of thedistrict, the Banderdewa Police swung into action and arrestedtwo junior engineers of department of hydro power development(HPD) from Ziro in Lower Subansiri district and a salesmanager of Banderdewa-based firm on February 23 last.

While junior engineers Iken Rike and Ateng Teng of thedepartment were arrested, assistant engineer Tanung Jamoh wason the run and seeking anticipatory bail from the court,police said here today.

Investigation revealed that 30 metric tons of iron rodswere drawn from Satyam Ispat, Banderdewa, for three microhydel schemes in Kurung Kumey district. The investigatingofficer visited the work site and confirmed that the materialsnever reached their destinations.

The Hiya Youth Trust had earlier claimed that the steellifted by the AE from M/s Satyam Ispat on July 6 last year didnot reach the project sites and accordingly, it lodged an FIRwith Banderdewa police station on February 11 last concerningthe missing steels and demanded a thorough inquiry in thisregard.
