NCP MLA accused of rape arrested in Mumbai

Mumbai, Feb 26 (PTI) Dilip Wagh, an MLA of ruling NCP inMaharashtra who has been accused of raping a girl, wasarrested here tonight, the police said.

Wagh has been arrested in Mumbai, Police CommissionerSanjeev Dayal told PTI.

He declined to provide further details.

The legislator from Pachora in North Maharashtra''sJalgaon district and his Personal Assistant Mahesh Mali werebooked yesterday after the victim lodged an FIR.

A 20-year-old girl, in her complaint, alleged she wasraped by Wagh and Mali in a government guest house in Nashikwhere she was called on the pretext of helping her get a job.

The legislator was suspended from NCP earlier today.

"The party has taken a serious view of the rape chargesand suspended Wagh who has alleged a conspiracy against him.

If he is found not guilty, action taken would be withdrawn,"Deputy Chief Minister and NCP leader Ajit Pawar said.

Earlier in the day, NCP President Sharad Pawar said "he(Wagh) should surrender and face the probe. The party woulddecide on the issue if he is found guilty." PTI VM SSG VT RSY
