JSPL to set up world''s biggest steel plant in Orissa
Bhubaneswar, Feb 26 (PTI) Optimistic of commissioningfirst phase of its proposed 6 mtpa steel project by March 2012in the state, Jindal Steel and Power (JSPL) today said itwould set up the world''s biggest steel plant in Orissa.
"The capacity of the proposed 6 mtpa steel plant willbe expanded to 20 mtpa in next 10 years. This will be thebiggest steel plant in the world," JSPL executive vice-chairman and managing director Naveen Jindal told reportersafter meeting chief minister Naveen Patnaik.
Stating that the company had already invested Rs10,000 crore and placed order for another Rs 5,000 crore forits Orissa steel project, Jindal said they would startoperation with commissioning of 2 mtpa steel plant in thefirst phase.
"We will be able to achieve the capacity of 6 mtpasteel plant by 2013," he said adding that the company wasplanning a big investment in the state.
While JSPL would invest Rs 45,000 crore to Rs 50,000crore in stel sector, Rs 50,000 crore would be invested in itsproposed Coal-To-Liquid (CTL) plant.
"The company is likely to invest Rs 1,10,000 crore innext 10 years," Jindal said claiming that the environmentalclearnce to its project was not conditional.
To a question on rehabilitation of the projectaffected people, Jindal said the company had alreadydemonstsrated its activities. "Both the chief minister and thecompany were concerned over proper rehabilitation of theaffected people," he said.
The young Congress MP also said "I have never beenignored as an industrialist even though being an MP from theopposition party," he said.
