Dy Speaker anguished over spate of adjournments in AP Assembly

Hyderabad, Feb 26 (PTI) Deputy Speaker of Andhra PradeshAssembly Nadendla Manohar, who is currently the officiatingSpeaker, expressed serious displeasure over the happenings inthe House as he was forced to adjourn it for the day todaywithout transacting any business.

"It is depressing coming everyday (to the House) and notbeing able to function. People won''t pardon us," an anguishedManohar observed as he adjourned the proceedings on theseventh working day of the Budget session today.

"We have a responsibility to the people. The House shouldbe used as a forum for debate. People have sent us to theAssembly to discuss their issues, not for adjournments," theDeputy Speaker said in exasperation and appealed to themembers to let the House take up listed business.

"But the Telangana Rashtra Samiti members, along with theCongress MLAs from Telangana region, remained adamant on theirdemand for a resolution on creation of a separate state.

BJP floor leader G Kishan Reddy too stood up and raisedhis voice on the issue but that did not go into the records.

Earlier in the day, many issues forced adjournment ofproceedings of the Assembly twice. While the Telanganastatehood demand continued to be dominant, the Telugu Desam,CPI and CPM members raised their voices over a host of otherissues like yesterday''s firing incident in Srikakulamdistrict, suicides by farmers and the uncertaintyprevailing in the state. .
