JAC to organise train blockades in Telangana on March 1

Hyderabad, Feb 24 (PTI) Mounting pressure on the Centrefor formation of separate Telangana state, the Telanganapolitical Joint Action Committee (JAC) today announcedcomplete train blockades in the region on March 1.

"It will be done in an unprecedented manner. We appeal tothe people to come to the railway tracks on March 1 to sendacross a message to the Centre about formation of Telangana,"JAC Convener M Kodandaram told reporters here today.

The rail network in Telangana is significant because manysouth-bound trains from northern India pass through theregion.

Kodandaram was speaking after a meeting with TRSpresident K Chandrasekhar Rao and other party leaders.

The TRS president held a meeting with party leaders thisevening. The TRS members'' efforts to raise the Telanganademand in Lok Sabha in the last few days and the future courseof action was discussed at the meeting, party sources said.

The idea of the TRS leaders quitting their posts to mountpressure on ruling Congress and opposition TDP leaders wasalso discussed, the sources claimed.

The government employees in Telangana, who have beenholding a non-cooperation agitation for the last one week,have already threatened to start an indefinite strike fromMarch 5 if the Centre failed to come out with a statement onformation of separate state.
