WB govt to provide job to Rajib Das'' mother

Kolkata, Feb 21 (PTI) The West Bengal government willgive a job to Gayatri Das, mother of Rajiv Das who was killedat Barasat while trying to defend his sister from eve-teasers.

"It has been decided to offer employment to Mrs Daseither at North 24-Parganas Zilla Parishad or at the districtmagistrate''s office," secretariat sources said.

They said the matter would be put up before the Cabinetfor vetting tomorrow.

Earlier, Rajib''s parents Tapan and Gayatri Das, alongwith his sister Rinku whom he tried to defend, met ChiefMinister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee at the secretariat.

Bhattacharjee handed over a cheque of Rupees two lakh tothe family as compensation.

According to the sources, the distraught family requestedthe chief minister''s intervention in arresting the culpritsnamed in the FIR and to provide a job for Gayatri.

The family, which was accompanied by local MLA BithikaMondol and additional district magistrate Anupama Kanjilal,was brought to the Chief minister''s chamber and taken out amidtight police escort and not allowed to meet newspersons. PTISBR AMD
