Mumbai, Feb 22 (PTI) Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS)president, Raj Thackeray, today slammed the state Governmentfor denying extra Floor Space Index (FSI) to batting maestroSachin Tendulkar, for his under-construction bungalow.

"It is very shameful of the Government to refuse a smallamount of FSI to a world-known player like Sachin. He wantedto buy the FSI and had applied in a legal way," Raj toldreporters.

The architectural firm in charge of construction hadrequested the Urban Development Department to allow theconstruction of a gymnasium, outside the available FSI, on thetop floor of the four-storey house on Perry Cross Road insuburban Bandra. Department rejected the request last week.

"There are many outsiders in the city, staying illegallyin slums. But the Government makes it legal or provides themwith 300 sq ft of free housing (each). Then why Sachin''sdemand was not fulfilled, when he approached the Government ina legal way?" Raj asked.

Taking a dig at the Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan, Rajsaid, "Would Chavan clear away illegal constructions in thecity if I brought them to his notice?"

Tendulkar''s request for additional FSI was rejected bythe Government because the construction of 8998 sq ft househad consumed the available FSI fully.

FSI is a ratio between the built-up area and the plotarea.

Also, under the Development Control (DC) rules, only thecooperative societies are given additional FSI for agymnasium or similar structures, UD sources said. PTI SSGKRK
