Punjab leading state in honey production

Moga, Feb 22 (PTI) Punjab has emerged as a leading Statein beekeeping contributing more than 30 percent of thenational honey production.

Stating this, a senior Punjab Agricultural Universityfaculty member said the educational institution has beenworking towards making the sector productive in the state.

PAU Head of Entomology A K Dhawan told beekeepers of Moga,Faridkot and Ferozepur district at a gathering here thatPunjab had more than 25,000 beekeepers in 2.5 lakh colonies.

He said the annual production of honey had risen to morethan 10,000 Metric tonnes.

Dhawan said Punjab exports honey to at least 47 countries.
