Police lathicharge youth cong activists

Thiruvananthapuram, Feb 21 (PTI) Police today lathichargedyouth congress activists who threw stones after their marchto the assembly complex here was blocked, police sources said.

The activists were taking out a march to the assemblycomplex to protest the alleged backdoor'' appointments'' ingovernment service and PSUs.

The Youth Congress''s Kerala unit president P C Vishnunathand a police officer were among those injured.

The trouble started after the march was blocked by policenear the assembly complex. Police lathicharged the activistsand later used water cannon to disperse them, police said.

The protesters also threw stones at the police in whichAssistant Commissioner of Police Krishnan Nair was injured.

Vishnunath, Youth Congress vice president M Liju andother persons injured were taken to Medical College hospitalby the police.

Opposition Deputy Leader in the assembly G Karthikeyansaid the lathicharge on youth congress workers would be raisedin the House.
