One held with ganja worth Rs 10 lakh

New Delhi, Feb 21 (PTI) One person, allegedly involvedin drug trafficking, has been arrested and 209 kg of Ganjaworth Rs 10 lakh recovered from him, police said today.

The vehicle used by him to transport the contrabandwas also seized, they said.

Acting on a tip-off, police arrested Virender Singh onFebruary 19 near Yamuna Bank metro depot and 209 kilogram ofGanja was recovered besides a Chevrolet Tavera used fortransporting the contraband.

37-year-old Singh, during interrogation, said that hewas a post graduate in Commerce from Delhi University but hisfamily was involved in criminal activities, said Ashok Chand,Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime and Railways).

His mother is a notorious bootlegger of Tilak Nagarand has been involved in as many as 34 cases.

Initially, Singh used to earn his livelihood throughsale of readymade garments but later got into crime and drugtrafficking.

Singh said that the contraband had come from Orissa.

Subsequently, it was transported by oil tankersin hidden cavities to Mathura from where he collected theconsignment, Chand said, adding Ganja was meant to be sold inSultanpuri, Nand Nagri and Sonia Vihar areas.
