Hyderabad Police issue guidelines for media
Hyderabad, Feb 21 (PTI) City police today again issuedguidelines to the media appealing them to exercise restrainwhile broadcasting news and called upon them to handlesensitive issues in a fair manner.
Referring to "Chalo Assembly" (march to Assembly) stirof students and advocates over the Telangana issue, PoliceCommissioner A K Khan said repeated telecast of footage ofviolent incidents will create a feeling of panic among public.
The Commissioner, in a release, required the media totake extra care and ensure accuracy and balance in reporting.
Khan said the media should follow the guidelines(programme code) given under the Cable Networks (Regulation)Act, 1995.
The Andhra Pradesh High Court has also issued clearorders on more than one occasion, reiterating the need toimplement the programme code, he said.
Any violation of the orders would be treated ascontempt of court, the Police Commissioner warned.
Police had issued similar guidelines in January afterthe Srikrishna Committee report was made public.
