Faith in judiciary further strengthened: Umarji''s son

Ahmedabad, Feb 22 (PTI) Son of Maulvi Hussain Umarji,alleged to be the key conspirator in the case, was jubilantover his father being acquitted in the Godhra case today.

"From the very beginning, due to faulty investigationof the agencies, my old father was confined to prison foreight long years. I think a big injustice was done to us,"Saeed Umarji, son of Syed Hassan Umarji, said.

"Ultimately, our faith in the judiciary further gotstrengthened today," he added.

Meanwhile, Congress State President Siddharth Patelsaid "We do not want to comment on the Godhra train carnagejudgement as it has not been the policy of Congress."

"But, definitely there are some issues revolvingaround this judgement," Patel said.

"If the state government and police had workedvigilantly, the 63 acquitted in this case today would not havehad to undergo this ordeal," he said.

"We, since the beginning have been saying that theculprits should be brought to book and no innocent should bepunished," Patel said.

"Some of the key witnesses in the case changed theirversions. Why so? This needs to be clarified as it remainsunanswered," he said.

A few key prime accused in the case have also beenacquitted which shows that the police has been unable togather sufficient evidence against them, Patel said.
