Congress alleges corruption in implementation of MNREGA

Patna, Feb 22 (PTI) Alleging large scale corruption inthe implementation for the Mahatma Gandhi National RuralEmployment Guarantee Act (MNREGA) in Bihar, the Congress todaysaid that the central flagship programme had achieved only 27per cent target in the state.

"Prevalence of rampant corruption in theimplementation of MNREGA in Bihar has been a known fact," thestate unit Congress President Chaudhary Mehboob Ali Kaisersaid at a function to mark fifth anniversary of the launch ofpopular rural employment generation scheme.

Unlike the states like Maharashtra and Andhra Pradeshwhere the implementation of MNREGA has been successful interms of generation of rural employment, the NDA government inBihar has failed to productively use the funds meant forgenerating guaranteed employment for rural poor for 100 daysevery year, he said.

The success rate of Bihar in terms of MNREGA has beenan abysmal 27 per cent due to corruption at all levels in itsimplementation, Kaiser said.

The Congress leader said that his party will soonlaunch an awareness campaign among the people to apprisethem about the Centre''s 16 welfare schemes, including MNREGA.
