AP Govt will abide by Centre''s decision on Telangana: CM
Hyderabad, Feb 22 (PTI) The Andhra Pradesh governmentwould abide by the decision of the Centre on the Telanganaissue, Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy said in thelegislative council today.
Replying to the debate on the motion of thanks to theGovernor''s address, he said the Centre would soon call ameeting of political parties from the state to discuss theSrikrishna committee report.
Noting that the Telangana issue was in the final stageof consideration by the Centre, Reddy said the politicalparties and other groups should be patient, till a decisionwas taken.
Responding to a suggestion from a CPI MLC, he said hewould urge the Centre to convene the meeting of parties fromthe state at the earliest.
Describing the pro-Telangana students as "our ownchildren", he said they should concentrate on their studies.
The state government did not hesitate to withdraw thecases against the students when there was a demand, he said.
He appealed to the government employees in Telanganato call off their non-cooperation and get back to work.
The Chief Minister, however, asserted that the governmenthad the responsibility to maintain law and order.
CPI member Puvvada Nageswara Rao and CPI(M) member ChSitaramulu said the Centre should take a quick decision on theissue.
