Polluted water leads to cattle deaths?
Madurai, Feb 20 (PTI): Pollution of water of Sengulam Tanknear here has reportedly led to the death of a large number ofanimals, including 100 cows and bulls, officials said.
They said the animals were part of the 1000 herd whichused to graze nearby and also drink water from the tank.
One of the herd owners said the animals started frothingfrom their mouths at around 6.00 PM yesterday and startedrunning helter skelter. All of them died by around 10 PM, hesaid.
District officials said it was not immediately clear ifwater in the tank was polluted with poisonous chemicals from anearby factory and said steps had been taken to save the otheranimals in the herd.
Dr M S Saravanan,a veterinarian said the animals died inquick succession as the doctors were informed about it onlyater a long time.
District collector C Kamaraj visited the spot andconducted enquiries about the reason for the deaths of theanimals.
