Cong leaders at loggerheads over RUB foundation stone laying
New Delhi, Feb 19 (PTI) Two leaders of ruling Congresswere at loggerheads today over the laying of foundation stonefor a road underbridge in south Delhi, with one even accusingthe other of getting the pedestal for it dismantled.
The Municipal Corporation of Delhi, which is organising afunction tomorrow for laying the foundation of an RUB atSiddharth Nagar, has sent a complaint to the SHO of SunlightColony Police Station that the pedestal for it, built by MCD,has been destroyed by "anti-social elements".
Though the complaint did not name anyone, area councillorand former Mayor Farhad Suri, who belongs to Congress and wasto preside over the function, pointed fingers at his partycolleague and Jangpura MLA Tarvinder Singh Marwah.
"The Siddharth Nagar RUB is an important project and Ihave got its approval done. It is a corporation project and acorporation function. Marwah is unhappy that he has not beeninvited to the function and he got the stone dismantled. It isMCD''s prerogative whom to invite. I will inform my partyleadership tomorrow about this behaviour," Suri said.
When contacted, Marwah said he worked a lot over the lasttwo years for getting approval for the project and felt"really bad" that he has not been extended invitation. He,however, maintained he did not know anything about thedismantling of the stone.
Vice-Chairperson of New Delhi Municipal Council TajdarBabbar will lay the foundation stone of the RUB. Mayor PrithviRaj Sawhney will be the Chief Guest at the function.
The complaint sent by office of the Executive Engineer(MCD City Zone) has sought adequate security from police.
"Several dignitaries are expected to attend the function...since we apprehend trouble from anti-social elements, adequate ''bandobast'' may be made," the letter said.
