''Rangasamy did more lip service than implement schemes''
Puducherry, Feb 17 (PTI) Union Minister of State forParliamentary Affairs and MoS in Prime Minister''s officeV Narayanasamy today alleged that former Puducherry ChiefMinister N Rangasamy did "more lip service than implementwelfare schemes" during his seven years in charge of the UnionTerritory.
Addressing a convention of Puducherry Mahila Congresshere, Narayanasamy said the present Congress government headedby V Vaithilingam had implemented several significant schemesincluding free medical education in the newly opened State-runIndira Gandhi Government Medical College and ResearchInstitute.
During the tenure of Rangasamy, who launched his ownpolitical outfit on February 7, the minister said the elderlyfound it difficult to get monthly financial assistanceregularly. However, under Vaithilingam, the pension amount hadbeen raised to Rs 720 from Rs 600 a month, he said.
Narayanasamy alleged Rangasamy had been on a "spree ofannouncing schemes" without any of them seeing light of theday.
He added the Congress-DMK coalition was strong and saidpeople were keen that Congress should remain in power in thecoming Assembly polls.
