Meeting to appoint JK SVC chief postponed

Jammu, Feb 18 (PTI) The meeting of a three-member panelheaded by JK Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to appoint the stateChief Vigilance Commissioner and two Information Commissionerswas postponed today till further orders.

"The meeting which was schedule to be held today for theselection of CVC and two ICs has been postponed," an officialspokesman said here.

However, he did not give any reason for the postponement.

The date for next meeting is being worked out, he said.

Besides Abdullah, the selection committee comprisesDeputy Chief Minister Tara Chand and leader of the OppositionMehbooba Mufti.

According to sources, former state chief secretary ShyamSunder Kapur is in the list of contenders for the SVC post andhas the backing of the Omar Abdullah government.

On January 27, Chief Income Tax Commissioner G R Sofi wasselected as the state''s first Chief Information Commissioner,but the panel kept the selection of two ICs pending due tolack of consensus.

Sofi was formally appointed as CIC on February 11.
