Four hardcore criminals arrested

Shillong, Feb 17 (PTI) Four persons who were allegedlyinvolved in highway robbery were arrested with arms here.

Additional SP Vivek Syiem today said Azad Ali,Dhanbahadur Rai, Deepak Chetri and Pynshai Rani were arrestedin raids being carried out since last night in various partsof the city.

An Italian-made pistol, some rounds of ammunition andtwo mobile sets were seized from them.

Syiem said the criminals had attacked a number oftruck drivers and looted cash and valuables from them invarious places of East Khasi Hills, Jaintia Hills, Ri Bhoi andWest Khasi Hills districts.

Two cases were filed by the truckers this month afterattacks on the truckers in and around Shillong.

The Assam Petroleum Mazdoor Union had met the deputycommissioner of East Khasi Hills earlier this week and hadthreatened a strike if the police failed to nab the criminalswho had become a terror.
