40 pc rise in daily customer acquisition ahead of WC: Dish TV

Ahmedabad, Feb 18 (PTI) Direct-to-home (DTH) serviceprovider Dish TV today said that in the run-up to the ICCWorld Cup, its daily acquisition of customers pan-India hasperked up by 40 per cent.

The Essel group promoted DTH provider will broadcast theWorld Cup through HD transmission, a next generationtechnology providing better picture quality and colours, itsaid.

"We have already witnessed a 40 per cent spike in dailyacquisition of customers ahead of the World Cup," COO, DishTV, Salil Kapoor said.

"On an average we add close to 3 lakh subscribers everymonth. We enjoy 32 per cent market share among the top sixplayers," he said.

DTH industry adds close to 1 to 1.2 million subscriberson an average every month. The DTH market registered a Y-O-Ygrowth of 100 per cent last year and is expected to growbetween 50-60 per cent this year.

The company last month acquired transponder rights forASIASAT-5 satellite, enabling it to offer broadcast of closeto 30 channels on HD across 16 genres such as sports, news,movies, music, infotainment, etc.

"We have started beaming from three satellites now, so asto offer a wider range of channels to our customers," Dish TVSenior Vice President, Marketing, Anjali M Nanda said.
