2G scam leads CBI to DMK family business
According to reports by NDTV, the raids on the TV Channel's office, which is closely associated with the DMK, were conducted during the early hours of today (Feb 18). NDTV believes that the TV channel received some amount of kickbacks from the scam.
Kalaignar TV, is seen as a family business of DMK patriarch M Karunanidhi, whose second wife owns more than 50 per cent stake in the channel along with daughter Kanimozhi, who also owns another 20 per cent.
The CBI had earlier said that the TV channel, received a Rs 200-crore cheque in 2009. The investigative agency said that the money was meant for A Raja and was paid by Shahid Balwa, a promoter of Swan Telecom and DB Realty.
Balwa and Raja have already been arrested by the CBI.
It is said that Swan Telecom received the licence for over Rs 1500 crores and then sold it to Etisalat, an UAE based company, for more than Rs 4,000 crore.
