WB to give Rs 2 lakh compensation to Rajib''s family

Kolkata, Feb 16 (PTI) West Bengal Finance MinisterAsim Dasgupta today announced compensation of Rs 2 lakh to theparents of Rajib Das who was killed by a gang of drunkenyouths in Barasat while he was trying to save his elder sisterfrom being molested.

"I have discussed the issue with chief ministerBuddhadeb Bhattacharjee who cleared compensation of Rs 2 lakhto the family and asked Rajib''s sister and parents to meet himat the state secretariat Writers'' Buildings," Dasgupta toldreporters here.

Describing the incident as ''unfortunate'', Dasguptasaid the chief minister has already met Rajib''s parents andfamily members at their residence and assured to help them.

To a question if service would be offered to anyfamily member, Dasgupta said the CM might discuss this whenthe family members would visit him at his office.

"A CID probe has already been ordered and the culpritsmust be arrested and punished. Financial problems of thefamily must be taken care of by the state government", hesaid.
