Recover missing persons or face music, HC to police

Jaipur, Feb 14 (PTI) Rajasthan High Court today askedpolice officials to recover a girl abducted on March 17 lastyear or else face the music.

The court told the police officials that in case theyfail to recover the child, the court will have to recordadverse remarks against the investigating officer and othertop officials, who were incharge of the case.

The division bench of Justices Dalip Singh and S SKothari told the top police officials, who were personallypresent in the court that the centralized cell meant fortracing missing persons was a "big fiasco" in the state andthat the investigations into the matter of missing persons wasa job of lesser priority for the police.

"We have already shown our displeasure to the DGP when hewas previously personally called by this bench but it appearsthings are still the same," the bench observed.

Recently a single judge bench of Justice M N Bhandari hasalso expressed its displeasure over the alleged involvement ofpolice officials in disputed land deals while DGP Harish Meenapersonally appeared before the single judge bench.

The division bench made the above observations whilehearing a habeas corpus writ petition filed by Nand Kishore,alleging that her minor child was abducted by Chandra Shekherand another person on March 3, 2010 and an FIR was alsolodged. As no action was taken by the police, Shekher wasforced to move the writ petition before the high court.

The bench has granted four weeks time to file theprogress report in the matter.
