BMC apologises to HC for failing to paint zebra crossings
Mumbai, Feb 15 (PTI) Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation(BMC) today orally apologised to the Bombay High Court forfailing to comply with its earlier order directing the civicbody to paint all zebra crossings in the city.
BMC counsel Priti Purandare today while orallyapologising on behalf of the civic body chief Subodh Kumar,submitted an affidavit seeking extension of four months tocomplete the painting of all zebra crossings in the city.
"The BMC has managed to paint 315 of the 752 zebracrossings. Since the contracts of the current contractorsended in January, the civic body has now invited new tenders.
The painting job would be finished within four months," theaffidavit states.
A division bench of Justices D K Deshmukh and N DDeshpande had yesterday come down heavily on the BMC and hadthreatened to issue a contempt notice against Subodh Kumar forfailing to comply with the court order.
The matter has now been kept for hearing on February 21.
The court was hearing a PIL filed by the Bombay BarAssociation on violation of traffic rules.
