10 sugar mills issued notices for non-payment of dues: UP govt

Lucknow, Feb 15 (PTI) The Uttar Pradesh government todaysaid it has issued notices to 10 sugar mills for non-paymentof dues to farmers for crushing season 2009-10.

"Recovery Certificates have been been issued against 10sugar mills for non payment of dues of farmers for thecrushing season 2009-10. An amount of Rs 13.86 crores havebeen realised from six sugar mills till Feb as interest fordelaying payment of farmers," said Cane development ministerNaseemuddin Siddiqui.

Siddiqui was replying to a question raised by RLD MLAMadan Chauhan during question hour in the state assembly.

The minister said there was a provision of payinginterest to farmers if their payments were not made within 14days.

Besides, he added there was 21 per cent increase in canesowing area in the state.
