Hindalco Q3 net profit jumps 8 pc

Mumbai, Feb 12 (PTI) Aditya Birla Group companyHindalco Industries has registered eight per cent rise in itsnet profit at Rs 460 crore for the third quarter endedDecember 31, 2010 amid higher aluminium prices.

The company''s net sales and operating revenueincreased by 12 per cent at Rs 5,975 crore in Q3 FY 11 drivenby better geographic mix and improved realisation, despitelower metal volumes, the company said in a press release here.

Metal volumes were impacted due to power outage at theHirakud smelter and cooling tower outage at Dahej smelter,which in turn affected production, the release said.

The company''s EBITDA was maintained despite lowermetal volume, with improved efficiencies and planned costsaving initiatives. The company benefited from higher pricesin its aluminium business and better by-product realisation incopper business, it said.

The quarterly EBITDA had been impacted by Rs 200-croreof which Rs 100 crore was related to Hirakud and Dahej outagesand the remaining due to higher carbon and energy cost alongwith lower treating and refining charges compared to Q3 FY10.
