No unauthorised construction in Bombay House: BMC
Mumbai, Feb 10 (PTI) A day after a major fire broke outat Bombay House, the Tata Group headquarters in south Mumbai,the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation said there was nounauthorised construction in the building.
The initial reports had suggested that due to unauthorisedconstruction in the basement of Bombay House the fire couldnot be doused quickly.
Three persons died due to suffocation.
Additional Municipal Commissioner Mohan Adtani todaysaid, "The information gathered by us so far reveals thatthere was no unauthorised work in Bombay House."
Meanwhile, Mayor Shraddha Jadhav said, according to theinformation received from fire brigade officials, the basementof Bombay House had 50 windows of which 20 were boarded up.
Air-conditioning machines and exhaust fans were installedin some other windows, which reduced the ventilation, shesaid.
"The building did not have the health department''spermission to run the canteen. Also, in recent years no fireinspection had been carried out in the building," Jadhav said.
