HC issue notice to MPSEZL, Guj govt on PIL for gauchar land

Ahmedabad, Feb 11 (PTI) The Gujarat High Court todayissued notice to the Adani Group''s Mundra Port and SpecialEconomic Zone Ltd (MPSEZL) and state government while hearinga public interest litigation (PIL) by villagers of Navinal inKutch district demanding back their grazing (gauchar) land.

A division bench of Chief Justice S J Mukhopadhaya andJustice Akil Kureshi has also issued notices to Union Ministryof Forests and Environment and Kutch District Collector inconnection with the case.

All those served notice have been ordered to filetheir replies by March 14 when the matter is scheduled fornext hearing.

Through the PIL, villagers of Navinal village havesought quashing of government order of June 2005, selling 231out of 276 acres of village grazing land to MPSEZL, leavingonly 45 acres for the village which was quite inadequate giventhe cattle population there. .
