BJP demands Guv''s sanction to proceed against Deshmukh, Shinde

Mumbai, Feb 11 (PTI) Maharashtra BJP today demanded thatstate Governor K Sankarnarayanan grant sanction to theinvestigating agencies to conduct proceedings against formerChief Ministers Vilasrao Deshmukh and Sushilkumar Shinde inconnection with the Adarsh Housing Society scam.

A delegation of BJP leaders headed by national secretaryKirit Somaiya met Sankarnarayanan at Raj Bhavan here andsubmitted a letter in this regard.

"People are shocked by the involvement of seniorministers and bureaucrats in the Adarsh scam. We have alreadyfiled a complaint with the CBI and approached the Governordemanding sanction to proceed against the former chiefministers Vilasrao Deshmukh and Sushilkumar Shinde," BJPspokesperson Atul Shah said.

Stating that evidences had been obtained againstDeshmukh, now the Union Rural Development Minister and Shinde,Energy Minister at the Centre, through RTI, Shah said the CBIofficials are also initiating action against the twoministers.

"Under Section 197 of CrPC, Honourable Governor isrequired to accord sanction against the former chiefministers. We request you to give consent to us andinvestigation agencies to proceed," the letter said.

The Governor also should consider Rs 10 lakh fine imposedby the Supreme Court to the State Government for obstructionof police action against the money lender father of a Congresslegislator, allegedly at the behest of then Chief MinisterDeshmukh, it said.
