Undertrial assaulted, strangulated to death in Bihar prison

Nawada (Bihar), Feb 10 (PTI) An undertrial was assaultedand strangled to death inside the divisional jail hereallegedly by an inmate on Wednesday night, police said today.

Bablu Mishra, arrested for carrying illicit spirit, hadearned the ire of an inmate Bipin Singh who allegedly tried toextort money from him.

The police said Singh in connivance with the jailsecurity personnel present at the time severely beat up Mishraand then strangulated him with a rope.

When the badly bruised body was sighted lying inside thejail by the other inmates this morning they raised vociferousprotests and shouted slogans against the jail authorities.

They were then forced to return to their cells by thejail security personnel, the police said.

As the news of the death spread, Mishra''s family membersand relatives assembled before the prison and indulged inheavy stone throwing targetting jail authorities.

Mishra was a resident of Sohsarai in neighbouringNalanda district and was arrested by the police a few daysago. He was later remanded to judicial custody at thedivisional jail.
