Dindigul Collector to look into cases of child marriage
Dindigul, Feb 10 (PTI) The Dindigul District Collector islooking into an inquiry report over alleged incidents of childmarriage near Gujiliamparai area in the district where threeunderage girls where wedded to men more than twice their age.
Tahsildhar Malaichamy, who was asked to file the reportfollowing complaints from the public, told reporters that theweddings were conducted by members of a clan in KootakaranPatti village in the district.
According to the inquiry report, the girls, all agedbetween 14-16 years, were married to Muthusamy (36), Subramani(34), and Pandian (30) early this month.
Malaichamy said the elders of the village told him thatthey had conducted the marriages as per the tradition of theclan. They had also assured him that such incidents would notrecur, he said.
