Over 4000 residents protest against demolition of colonies
Gurgaon, Feb 7 (PTI) Over 4000 residents of thecolonies located around the IAF ammunition depot blocked theAtul Kataria chowk here today protesting against theadministration''s plans to demolish their colonies.
The district administration said only commercialestablishments will be demolished.
"No houses located within the 900 m radius of theammunition depot will be demolished but the administrationplans to demolish only around twenty commercial establishmentslike shops, banquet hall and restaurants which are locatedadjacent to the wall of the ammunition depot," Gurgaon DeputyCommissioner Rajendra Kataria said.
Besides damaging two government vehicles, youths,carrying hockey sticks and iron rods, were even seenthreatening the commuters.
Kataria asserted that no one will be displaced fromtheir dwelling units.
The administration, however, claimed that thesecolonies have been constructed illegally and theadministration is bound to follow the order of the Punjab andHaryana High Courts, which have directed the administration todemolish these illegal colonies.
Former speaker of Haryana Vidhan Sabha GopichandGehlot was seen exhorting the protesters to continue theirprotests.
