Shinde, Rane appeal people to not oppose Jaitapur project

Ratnagiri, Feb 6 (PTI) Union Power Minister Sushil KumarShinde has appealed the people of Maharashtra''s Konkan regionto not oppose the proposed nuclear power plant in Jaitapurhere.

"An ultra mega power project has been constructed nearSolapur. There has been no opposition to that. Then why arepeople in Kokan region so afraid of the Jaitapur project," hesaid during his visit to Khed district in Ratnagiri yesterday.

State Industries Minister Narayan Rane, who visited theproject site earlier in the week, had said, "I am also nativeof Konkan. I know that the nuclear power is totally safe. Thenation needs this project," he added.
