SC dismisses plea to hear armed forces on homosexuality
New Delhi, Feb 7 (PTI) The Supreme Court todaydismissed a plea to make armed forces a party to the petitionssupporting and opposing the Delhi High Court''s ruling whichdecriminalised homosexual acts between two consenting adultsin private.
A bench headed by Justice G S Singhvi dismissed theplea made by one Suresh Kumar Kaushal, who submitted that thedefence forces should be made a party to the matter in view ofthe fact that the Defence Forces Act renders homosexualbehaviour as illegal.
The petitioner also submitted that the army chief hadsaid that no armed force in the world has legalisedhomosexuality and that it is illegal under the Army Act andthe Air Force Act.
He contended that the armed forces be impleaded inthe case as their stand is contrary to the judgementof the Delhi High Court, which had decriminalised gay sexamong consenting adults in private.
The apex court, however, was not convinced anddismissed his application. More PTI AAC RKS AKI RAX
