Dalit labourer dies in police custody

Moradabad, Feb 1 (PTI) Yesterday, when CM Mayawati wasinspecting the police station and tehasil of JP Nagar and washappy to know all is well, a dalit lobourer of Gajrola indistrict JP Nagar, Amarpal(30) was in police custody inserious condition on the allegation of theft and his wifePooja was requesting to release him since Jan 31st.

And yesterday when CM visited nearby police stationDhanaura , poooja reached there and tried to pursue hergrievances but was thrown out of the police station by the SPJP Nagar Manjil Saini.

Today Amarpal was declared dead. the incident tookplace at Gajrolla where Amarpal Jatav was brutally beaten bylocal bank employee, Surinder Singh and his family on theallegation of theft and was handed over to police on Jan 31st.

And since last four days he was in police custody. Andpooja was requesting to release him and was also presentduring the inspection by the CM.

Today when police declared him dead the local dalitslost their control and gathered at the police station andjammed the Gajrola - Deharadun Highway for two hours. Theywere demanding to punish the culprits.

Deceased wife Pooja said that her deceased husband wasa mason labourer and construction work was done by him at thesingh''s residence and Surindwer didnot pay the labour charges,when on 31st Jan he went there to demand his wages he wasbrutally beaten up and later he was sent to the police andpolice also tourtured him.

She requested everbody to release her husband butcould not got success. IG Moradabad range Javed Akhtar, saidthat the deceased was handed over to police with some otherperson on theft charges and the copndition of Amarpal wasserious, so he was reffered to Meerut Medical college andtoday he suffered to his injuries.

Enquiry is on and culprit will be punished.
